“ The big bang theory “ This is an American sitcom about four high intellectual boring friends, Leonard, Sheldon, Raj and Howard, whose life got changed after meeting a free spirited but struggling actress, neighbour Penny. This show reminds me the theory I have studied 15yrs back and also the changes occurred from 2007 to 2019, staring from landline to smart phone and many more, which I can corelate.
The Big Bang Theory is much more than just a sitcom. While the characters and situations are fictional, the show teaches many valuable life lessons. Here are a few things I learned from it:
1. Embrace Change
I used to dislike changes in my life, just like Sheldon Cooper. I expected everything to remain permanent—people, places, and circumstances. But life had different plans.
Over the last 20 years, I have lived in more than five cities across four states. I experienced different cultures, languages, and lifestyles. Although it was difficult to adapt in the beginning, every change helped me grow into a better version of myself.
2. No One Flourishes Alone
No one grows personally or professionally all by themselves. The right people around you—especially your friends—play a huge role in shaping who you become. Their support, honest criticism, and encouragement help you build confidence and become a better person.
A great example is how Leonard and Penny always stood by Sheldon, despite him being an incredibly difficult person to deal with.
3. True Friends Don’t Always Try to Please You
True friends are not always there to stay in your good books. Sometimes they can be annoying, stubborn, or difficult to deal with. They may hurt your feelings or disagree with you, but you still choose to keep them in your life because, when it truly matters, they are always there for you through your highs and lows.
The seven main characters beautifully demonstrate this, especially the friendship between Leonard and Raj.
4. Relationships Require Effort and Understanding
Relationships are not easy. There will be differences of opinion, disagreements, and conflicting interests. The key is to respect each other’s differences, support one another when needed, and be willing to compromise based on each other’s priorities in a particular situation—even when you don’t feel like it.
Most importantly, keep communicating openly so there is no room for misunderstandings.
I especially admired the understanding between Amy and Sheldon, Howard and Bernadette, and, of course, Leonard and Penny.
5. Never Let the Child Inside You Die
Being an adult doesn’t mean you have to be serious all the time. It’s important to keep the child within you alive. Continue doing the things you loved as a child and don’t hesitate to be playful once in a while.
Throughout the series, the four friends never stopped enjoying comics, video games, and little adventures together. That was their way of spending quality time with each other.
Nowadays, it’s becoming increasingly rare to see people spending meaningful time together—having long conversations over dinner, discussing everyday life, or playing games without constantly being distracted by smartphones.
Final Thoughts
Although The Big Bang Theory is a sitcom and its characters are fictional, it offers many meaningful life lessons that we can learn from and apply in our own lives. Unlike many baseless web series, this one leaves you with something to think about.
I could write about the lessons from almost every episode, but for now, I’ll keep it short and sweet.
