My experience in Lisbon, Portugal (A minha experiência em Lisboa, Portugal.)

Hello everyone, today I am going to share my experience of more than 2 months in Lisbon.

I really expect some suggestions from my readers.

I Came here to Lisbon, Portugal in the month of Feb. As I have shared in my earlier blog, the people are polite and welcoming in nature and the location is indeed beautiful. Yes, that’s absolutely true. Culture, food, greetings of Portuguese people is warming & I am thankful to every single stranger I met here.

But at the same time, I am trying to understand the mindset when it comes to job. Obviously Portugal has less job opportunities or no job opportunity for only English speakers and no doubt, the priority will be for people from this country and I really appreciate that. I am not sure though but 10% immigrants specifically on IT or software professionals are working here and the rest of the immigrants are in the unskilled category.

I heard this question often from other immigrants of Portugal, ” you are educated and highly experienced then what are you doing here in Portugal? ” So my question is, does Portugal only welcome uneducated or unskilled immigrants & there is no place for educated individuals.

I understand that the language is the top most priority and I have started taking class in Portuguese ( thanks to one of the NGO in Lisbon). I am not even blaming anyone but still I have questions and wanted to understand the facts.

I am a highly qualified & experienced individual, I had a successful career in India & I left my country with a hope that i may get better opportunities here and at the same time, I am keen to settle here in Portugal, but finding a job here is a task. Forget about jobs, I tried to contact many recruiters of Lisbon through Linkedin in a positive way at least to get their guidance or suggestions, but not a single reply I have received till date. I keep on questioning myself, did I write something wrong? Is there any issue with my approach?

I really want to understand the fact and the reason behind it so that I can change my way of approach accordingly.

Now let’s talk about immigrants who provide jobs. Somehow I felt that my own country’s people might have forgotten humanity and integrity. Everyone is interested in taking advantage of others’situations. These all made me feel sometimes, did I do wrong coming here?

But as usual, I am a self motivator and make myself positive that things will change soon.

But still lots of questions are unanswered..
